Detonator 40-series and tv-output problems

Introduction:Wir haben die Lösung!

With the release of the all new Detonator 40-series many user experience tv-output problems with it. We worked on that issue and discovered the reason. There are 3 different solutions to solve this problem.

Cause:

Refreshrate-tools like Refreshrate Fix MKII lead to this malfunction. The problem even occurs if one manipulates the refreshrate for 1024x768 though the tv is not able to display this resolution. We conclude that such tools cause changes the detonator 40 can't deal with.

- Solution 1:

We recommend not using refreshrate-tools in order to avoid trouble. If there is such utility on your pc and you are not able to use the tv-output it might help to reinstall the Detonator-driver.

In case you can't do without a refrechrate-fix in combination with a 40-series Detonator you should use Refresh-Lock only. This utility does not cause any changes in the registry and it will not harm your display-driver. However the program always needs to run in the background while playing Direct3D- and OpenGL Games.

- Solution 2:

You might already know of TVTool. That's another way to overcome the problem if there is already a refreshrate-fix in use you don't want to miss. The solution is quite simple. Just enable the tv-output by using TVTool and the problem should be gone. Unfortunately this tool is not freeware. Due to this the unregistered version will shut down after 15 minutes automatically. The developer charges 10 euro for a full copy. Furthermore TVTool does not support all graphics-boards equivalently. Though you should not experience any problems with most of the graphics-boards.

- Solution 3:

The tv-out issue occurs since the release of the Detonator 40.41. Referring to our Detonator-tests there will not be any enhancement in game performance with this new driver. So why not use an older one (e.g. 30.82) that can also be downloaded from us. With a former driver you could still use any other refreshrate-fix you want without this specific problem.

Conclusion:

A good way to avoid problems is to go without refreshrate-tools. But that is not very practicable while most of the games don't go higher than 60 Hz. Consequently we recommend the use of Refresh-Lock. As we know it won't work on various machines. If it does not run on your pc or if you do not want to spend money on TVTool you should decide for an older driver such as 30.82. At the moment there is no need for the new Detonator series although there are a couple of new games (e.g. Hitman 2) that demand it in order to run correctly. Don't hesitate to install one of the former disply-drivers as long as your favourite games are satisfied with it.
